Burqa Ban: Today once again there is a discussion on ‘Burqa’ on social media. The main reason for this is a step taken by Switzerland. Actually, Switzerland has completely banned wearing hijab or burqa. The ban on burqa will start from January 1, 2025.
Apart from Switzerland, there was controversy regarding burqa in Iran. This is also being discussed in Pakistan. A Pakistani girl has openly expressed her views on ‘burqa’, which is making a lot of headlines. In the viral video, a Pakistani girl can be seen talking about India and raising many serious questions.
Pakistani girl’s side on Burqa Ban
A video has been released from a YouTube channel named ‘Real Entertainment TV’. In the video post, a reporter can be seen listening to the girls’ side on the ongoing protests against hijab in Iran. A girl boldly expresses her views in front of the reporter and says, “Do all the girls of India wear veil of their own free will? What will happen if you cover up? Are girls safe after purdah? The entire responsibility does not lie with the government, society will also have to become responsible and this culture will have to be ended. Burqa (Burqa Ban) is not even a culture of Pakistan. “It came from Saudi Arabia only 3-4 decades ago.”
The Pakistani girl boldly says that “Pakistan is a victim of identity crisis. Sometimes we lived with Saudi Arabia and sometimes with other countries. I want to ask the people standing here whether their maternal grandmother or grandmother used to wear burqa? She was not even a victim of harassment. What is? What is it that is being imposed?”
Women protest against hijab in Iran!
Recently there were protests by women in Iran regarding the mandatory wearing of hijab. Even in the 21st century, women are fighting on the streets for personal rights. Iran’s hijab issue is in the news after the death of Mahsa Amini, who was detained for allegedly wearing the hijab improperly. In different parts of the country and the world, social activists or people from many other forums are seen raising questions on the necessity of hijab.
Why is there discussion about hijab in the context of India?
Amidst the ongoing controversy regarding Burqa Ban or Hijab in Iran and Switzerland, this is being discussed from the Indian perspective. Talking about India, there are two groups which support or oppose hijab or burqa according to their respective logic. Figures associated with Islamic conservative ideology and many politicians coming from the Muslim community seem to be in favor of the mandatory wearing of hijab. There are many such women and educated Muslims who say that it is a part of privacy. They believe that girls or women can wear or not wear burqa or hijab as per their wish.
